A self-taught Scottish fiddler since the age of eleven, Melinda Crawford has won numerous awards for her solo playing and her compositions at national competitions as well as from various regional highland games and festivals in Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington state. She has achieved fiddling titles including Allegheny Mountain Fiddling Champion and Potomac Valley Fiddling Champion several times as well as the 2003 U.S. National Scottish Fiddling Champion. Today, despite her currently busy life as a doctoral student in music education at The Ohio State University, Melinda is an active Scottish fiddling performer, instructor, clinician, and Scottish F.I.R.E. judge. She is also the music director of the new Scioto Scottish Fiddle Club based in Columbus, Ohio. Her debut solo album, The Wandering Suitcase of Stirling, was released in last year to rave reviews. She has recently performed in Scotland, in Austria, and on the soundtrack of the Discovery Channel’s two-hour special, “Seven Wonders of the Wild West.”
