Project Consultant needed for ASTA outreach initiative

ASTA was recently awarded a grant from NAMM to launch an outreach initiative that pairs volunteer string clinicians with community youth troops for a five-session workshop. We are looking for a Project Consultant to spearhead this program for the next year (through June 30, 2008). ASTA has announced this position on our national website but we are asking that each state publicize this opportunity to their members as well. This is a part-time, telecommuting position that will be paid a stipend of $8,000.

The link to the project description can be found on the ASTA website. If you, or anyone you know, are interested in this position, please fill out the application and submit as soon as possible. The deadline to apply is July 13 but the position will remain open until filled by a qualified candidate.

Please feel free to contact Elizabeth Bookwalter with any questions.

Cellobration Orlando Wrap-Up

The first annual Cellobration Orlando was a huge success! Close to 50 participants gathered for the day-long workshop at Liberty Middle School on March 31st. Prior to the workshop, 30 people attended the cello masterclass held the Friday evening before. Eight talented cellists from the area performed for the guest clinician, Professor Greg Sauer from Florida State University.

On Saturday, three orchestras of celli gathered and rehearsed all day. The beginning, intermediate and advanced groups worked hard to prepare the concert at 5pm. Throughout the day, cellists enjoyed making music, meeting with vendors and trying instruments, raffle prizes, and plenty of social time. During lunchtime, Professor Sauer gave a cello recital which was greatly enjoyed by all.

Plans are already in the works for a bigger and better Cellobration Orlando next year. Hope to see you there!
