Laszlo Varga to be honored February 16 – 18, 2007
Renowned cellist, pedagogue, conductor, and arranger of much of the literature for cello choir will be the central figure at a weekend of concerts, master classes and presentation, Friday through Sunday, February 16 – 18 at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. Florida educators Manuel Capote, Ross Harbaugh, Michael Allen, and Greg Sauer will participate, along with special appearances by Janos Starker, Takiyori Atsumi, Jerome Kessler, and host Brooks Whitehouse.
One of the features of the event will be a book of “testimonials,” remarks from students, music lovers, and colleagues of Mr. Varga. Persons who wishes to contribute to this book should send their remarks by Monday, February 12, by email to cello_studio@uncg.edu, attention of Professor Brooks Whitehouse.
Mr. Varga resides in Sarasota following a long international career. In 2002 he gave a master class and a recital, which included performing on his cello piccolo (five strings), for FL-ASTA's Cellobration 9, held in conjunction with the Florida Cello Club. Mr. Varga is Honorary President of the Florida Cello Club.
