A Solo String Competition for High School and Middle School Students
- $1,000 in awards
- Grand Concert of Finalists (March 10, 7pm, Recital Hall, UNF)
- 1st prize winner performs on the 2007 – 2008 Department of Music Concert Series
- Performing opportunities, feedback, recognition and experience
Eligibility: Open to high school and middle school players of violin, viola, cello, bass, harp.
Repertoire Requirements: One movement of solo Bach and one movement of a concerto or a concert piece.
Purpose: To give outstanding high school and middle school string players the opportunity to perform in order to assist in their artistic development, as well as to promote awareness of the string program at UNF.

Application deadline is February 26, 2007.

Laszlo Varga to be honored February 16 – 18, 2007
Renowned cellist, pedagogue, conductor, and arranger of much of the literature for cello choir will be the central figure at a weekend of concerts, master classes and presentation, Friday through Sunday, February 16 – 18 at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. Florida educators Manuel Capote, Ross Harbaugh, Michael Allen, and Greg Sauer will participate, along with special appearances by Janos Starker, Takiyori Atsumi, Jerome Kessler, and host Brooks Whitehouse.
One of the features of the event will be a book of “testimonials,” remarks from students, music lovers, and colleagues of Mr. Varga. Persons who wishes to contribute to this book should send their remarks by Monday, February 12, by email to cello_studio@uncg.edu, attention of Professor Brooks Whitehouse.
